After hearing a Donation
Drive announcement on Radio 93.7-MIKE for the school children victims of Hurricane
Katrina, Cassidy Curry, 4 1/2 years old pleaded with her father to join in
and help them. Bob Curry, the father (and the owner of New England Delivery,
Inc.) immediately agreed and the two hurried to Walgreen's and purchased school
supplies enough to fill the trunk of the car.
The Donation Drive was
to be held on Sunday, September 11th, 2005, at Boch Honda in Norwood, MA and
both Bob and Cassidy were planning to drop off their donations. But then the
unexpected happened! On the day of the donation drive, an illness struck Cassidy's
sister, Amanda, 2 years old who was rushed to the hospital. They never made
the donation drive!
A few days later Bob had
his secretary of New England Delivery contact 93.7-MIKE radio station to find
out if he was still able to donate the school supplies. Surprisingly, upon
speaking to Stacy Pollack, Mktg. Director of Entercom Boston (93.7-MIKE radio
station) it was discovered that they were overwhelmed with the donation response
and were short of a straight truck to transport the excess donations
to Houston. Stacy asked if New England Delivery had a truck to accommodate
them. Within minutes, Bob quickly responded and provided them with a truck
to transport the goods from Boston to Texas. Normally, his business only services
the New England (New York and NJ) areas, however, Bob thought it was a great
way to make his daughter proud and to contribute to such a worthy cause. Without
batting an eye lash, Brian Moody, one of New England Delivery, Inc.'s drivers
immediately took the assignment. Besides Brian responding so quickly and generously,
so did a few other people such as Larry Pelavin of "Signs by Tomorrow"
who volunteered affixing lettering to Brian's truck prior to departure and
Joe Troy, Owner of Charles River Moving Company who temporarily stored the
excess supplies in his warehouse. Brian delivered the goods to Houston in
record-breaking time. After the trip was completed New England Delivery, Inc.
received a response from Texas via Entercom Boston (93.7-MIKE radio station)
- it read as follows:
Stacy: We got the shipment
this morning! Brian arrived with his truck from Boston and unloaded the shipment
and we are in the process of sending all the backpacks out! We thank you Bostonians
so much for your big hearts, You'll never know how much you impacted the lives
of these evacuee children. Our best to all who worked on this project. We
will be in touch soon.
Kindest regards, Carol
